Bruins

It's that time of year, playoff hockey season! The Stanley Cup defending champs, The Boston Bruins are back in the playoffs. In the first round they're playing the Washington Capitals. So far there has been a total of 6 games played in the first round. They have split them 3 and 3. The deciding game will be played on Wednesday and I could not be more excited. The series has been back and forth for who has looked stronger and I as of now I'd say the Bruins have looked stronger. Game 7 will be played in Boston so it's another advantage for the Bruins. I'm really relaying on the Bruins, if they lose I'm going to pretty upset.

Nice Weather

The past week was filled with sunny and warm days. When the weather outside is as nice as it was it puts me and others in a much better mood in my opinion. Everyone is looking forward to the day ahead just to enjoy the nice weather. The only downside to all last week being so nice is now that it's cold again it makes the weather even seem worse. I was hoping that from here on out it was going to only be warm weather but I guess not. It has gotten me so much more excited for summer weather that I can hardly wait. The cold rainy weather makes me way more tired and not in a mood to get things done. At least the warm weather will be here soon enough!

End of the Year

Finals are coming up pretty quickly. It's hard to believe there are only 2 weeks of school left this year. Freshman year flew by so quickly it makes me wonder where the time has gone. For the first time in my life I can honestly say I don't want the school year to end. I've made so many close friends here at school that I don't want to wait till next september to see them again. Plus unlike most past summers this time I will be working most likely full time. I would rather be here at school learning and doing school work rather than working in a restaurant.

Red Sox

So the Red Sox are about 7 games into the season and things are looking a little iffy. Are record is 2 and 5. Not a very good start but they won last night by a total of 10 runs. I'm not sure how I feel about the team this year, it definitely doesn't look as strong as they have been the last couple years. I'm going to stay optimistic though and hope for a playoff contention. One thing I really don't like about the team is the new head coach, Bobby Valentine. It's is first year as our head coach due to Francona's departure. My first impression of Valentine is that he's all about the media attention. I've seen him on a couple commercials and he flies to New York every week to take part in a sports show. If you're going to coach the Red Sox you can't be flying to New York like that. It's not acceptable and it's a distraction. I hope things get better for the Sox otherwise I see things coming down on Valentine.

J. Cole

For the last weekend here at school I'm going to the J. Cole concert which will be held at the Whittemore Center. I'm very excited seeing as the first two concerts I've been to up here have been a blast. The first two were Avicii and David Guetta. They were both dubstep concerts which is pretty much a form of techno, something to dance to. This concert will be rap which is what I like. There are a bunch of songs by J. Cole which I really like and I'm hoping he plays. Along with J.Cole, another rapper named BIG Krit is also coming. Personally I think BIG Krit is a better rapper than J. Cole and I'm really looking forward to see him perform. This will most likely be the last big night of the school year so I'm hoping it will be a good kick off to summer!

MIS

MIS is an abbreviation for managerial information systems. It's an option for the business school here at UNH and also one of my current classes. I find the class pretty interesting, it's pretty much working with excel and access two Microsoft programs. With those two programs we enter in information based on a company to predict what certain revenue and expenses might be so that company's can know where there at and to help them make decisions. I find it pretty interesting and it's something I'm definitely considering majoring in. It allows pays relatively well coming out of college and that is definitely a plus. If I don't major in MIS than it will most likely be marketing. I have up until next year to decide so it's going to take a lot of hard thinking to figure out what I'm going to choose.

Summer

With the end of the school year quickly approaching it's time to start thinking about summer plans. The past couple of summers have taken it rather easy, working a few days a week to make enough spending money at college. Since I've used up just about all that money here at school it's time to start making some real money. So this summer I'm looking in to get a full time job where I'll be working from Monday to Friday. The job that I have my eyes on right now is being a host at a local restaurant called Not Your Average Joe's. It's a pretty popular restaurant in my town and chances are I'll be seeing a lot of people I haven't talked to in a while. I'm definitely looking forward to it, it should be a challenge for sure but I'm ready.

Opening Day

The begging of the Major League Baseball season opened up a couple days ago and I couldn't be more excited. Baseball is probably my favorite sport since I played it in high school and I've just always been so into it. Hopefully the Red Sox will be as good as they were last year except for blowing the division lead. The first game of the season was definitely a bummer. They tied the game up in the top of the 9th inning but then blew it with Detroit's next at bat. It was the bullpen that gave up the loosing runs and a lot of people are starting to question whether or not the bullpen will be able to hold its own this year. We'll find out soon enough but lets hope the Sox have a good season!

easter weekend

Today starts the mark of easter weekend. The last time I was at home was back during spring break so it's been a little while since I've been back. I'm pretty excited to see my family and friends back at home and hopefully something exciting will be going on this week. My family is having Easter Sunday dinner a our house this year. Usually we have holiday gatherings at my aunts house since there so much more room there. I'm pretty excited to be hosting the dinner this year we're hardly ever all at our house and plus I won't have to make the hour drive to get to my aunts that we usually do.

The Weather

The weather has been crazy ridiculous the past few weeks. This has definitely been one of the oddest winters I’ve ever experienced. It’s snowed maybe two times and both of those times it was only a few inches. In past winters, especially last one, I remember the sidewalks been 4 feet high with snow. Today was a high of around 74 degrees and to me that is absolutely absurd. I’d have to imagine the reasoning for the weather is global warming. I can’t believe that this warm weather is good for our environment. Hopefully next winter will go back to normal because I’m a fan of the snow and especially skiing.

Freshman Year

Coming back from spring break we only have about 2 months left in school. I can definitely say freshman year has pretty much flown by. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a time period going by as quickly as this one has. I think the main reason was because how exciting everything has been. From meeting a whole network of new people to experience much more interesting classes. The weeks pretty much fly by and the weekends pass even quicker. A lot of people say that as we move into the upper years of college it gets better. Personally I think freshman will be the best since everyone we know is so close in the dorms. I don’t think it will ever be the same.

St. Patricks Day

So this was the week of St. Patricks day. I’ve never really celebrated the holiday by any means but this was my first year attending the parade in South Boston. I’m 25 percent Irish but I mainly think of myself as Italian mainly because I have dark skin and that’s what a majority of my family is. Anyways the parade fell on one of the nicest days of the year. It was in the mid 70’s without a cloud in the sky. We took the train into the city and it was packed. I’ve never seen so many green shirts in my life.

Mac Miller

So one of my favorite rappers the most couple of years has been Mac Miller. He is originally from Pittsburgh along with another well known rapper named Wiz Khalifa. He's relatively young around 20 years old and has been getting bigger and bigger the last few years. His first couple of mixtapes were definitely his best pieces of work. Ever since he started to get really noticed around the country I feel his work has been getting worse. It started with the drop of his first album called Blue Slide Park. In his album he moved away from the type of rap he had been originally creating and made much more main stream music which would potentially sell to a wider audience. Instead since he tried so hard to make more main stream music the songs were worse off and the album wasn't as good as his previous music. Since then he has been putting out music I don't find to be particularly that good either. And with another mixtape coming out in about a week I hope it's good so he doesn't start fading out of the rap game for good.

March Madness

So since the month of March has begun it's time to start filling out the brackets. Every time March rolls around the same commotion and excitement is here. I always join some sort of bracket pool, whether it's online with random people or a group of friends for money. Filling out brackets is one of the toughest things to do. Since there a total of 64 teams in the tournament it's pretty much impossible to guess every game right. With the amount of crazy endings and upsets you'll even be lucky to pick the final four teams. Every year I get all excited about winning but only to lose. The closest I've come to winning in my history is when it came down to the final game. It was between me and another kid and who's ever team won the game would take home the entire win and the money. Unfortunately I was the loser but second place wasn't too bad.

Umass

So I've been thinking about transferring from UNH to Umass next year due to the cost. I've only been to Umass a few times and they were all on tours when I was looking at colleges my junior and senior year in high school. But I had never to been to visit over night to experience what it's like on a weekend night. Last weekend was my first time doing so. My and a couple of my friends from home drove up and stayed with a cousin of theirs. The first difference that plays a huge factor on a weekend night is the fact that the campus is so much bigger. In order to get around from party to party you need to take a cab which is 2 dollars per person. I'm not saying that it's a lot of money it's just a hassle to have to always be in need of a cab. At UNH you're pretty much in walking distance of everywhere on campus even if it might be a  little ways, it's still in walking distance.

transferring

It was always my first choice to go to UMASS Amherst. The main reasons are that my brother went there and had a really good time and did well in school. Plus it's much cheaper than coming here since I'm out of state right now which basically doubles the price. Right now I'm in the process of reapplying to UMASS which includes writing a page paper about why I want to transfer. Even though I've met so many kids here that I would consider close I would still be okay with transferring since I have a good amount of friends from my hometown that go there now. I've also put down the deposit for housing next year and you can only get half of it back if you decide your not coming back which is kind of a bummer. Either way though if I transfer or not I will still be happy since I like what both schools have to offer.

basketball season

So I blogged once about the intermural basketball season before it started and I will now since the season just ended. We played a total of 4 games, 3 of them were regular season and one was playoff. And since our season just ended you can go ahead and assume that we lost the playoff game. Along with that loss we also lost our other 3 games. So in total we lost 4 and won a total of 0 games. Even though we didn't win any games I still had fun playing mainly because it was competitive and I've missed that since high school ended. I think I played alright throughout the games, I probably wasn't the best player on the team but I definitely did my share. I think one of our biggest problems was that we weren't able to score or rebound. All that said I had a lot of fun and will definitely sign up to play again next year and hopefully we might win a game or two.

the sopranos

Recently I started watching a series called The Sopranos. It's about a family of mob gangsters and the main character is named Tony. Tony is the boss which basically means he runs the entire Italian Mob based in Jersey. I'm usually always watching some sort of series since they tend to be pretty addicting. Another one of my favorite series that I watched prior to The Sopranos is called Entourage. I would probably say that I liked Entourage more because that's what I would call my dream life. I've watched that show a total of 4 times and I can honestly say it gets better every time. I have 5 more seasons of Sopranos left and after that I'll have to hope there's another series that will come along.

Business Project

For about the last week and a half I've been working on an MIS project. MIS stands for managerial information systems. For the project we have to use Microsoft Excell to create several tables and graphs on a spreadsheet for a made up restaurant. As tough as at is I enjoy doing the project so it isn't as much of a struggle to complete it as it is for other kids. Since I'm able to spend a lot of time on it and figure tough problems out on my own a lot of other kids in my class and on my floor with the same project ask me for help. I enjoy helping people cause it makes me feel good about myself and quite smart. I still have more work to do for it but it shouldn't be much more and I'll probably start it after this so I have no more homework for the weekend.

My friend Stew

So I have this friend named Stew. He lives on the same floor as me and when I'm not in my room you can usually find me in his. We typically play video games in his room since he just got a 32 inch TV for his birthday. It's high definition so it's pretty much the best quality around. In the beginning of the year Stew had a full head of curly hair and then one day he decided to shave it all off. It was pretty funny but he looked pretty weird at first but eventually it began to look normal. Today after we went to eat dinner at the dinning hall in Hoko we went to the game room and played pool. After I beat him in two straight games we then decided to play ping pong. After I beat him to straight times in that game we then left. Now I'm sitting here with him currently writing this blog.

Jeremy Lin

So recently this New York Knick basketball player, Jeremy Lin has been all the hype. Before he came to New York he got cut from Golden State he figured he wouldn't be good enough to get playing time. Playing only a few games in New York he quickly caught fire and it's all anyone can talk about. He is a 6 foot Asian point guard. It's usually pretty rare to see an Asian playing in the NBA that isn't a 7 foot tall center, so that definitely plays into the crazy story. During his first 10 games he quickly became the starting point guard and had an average of 26 points a game which is definitely something to be proud of. A lot of people have been skeptical of whether or not Lin can keep up these unbelievable stats. It will be difficult but I believe in him and I hope he continues to prove people wrong had continue on as the success story no one saw coming.

Mall

Since I lost one of my hats at the David Guetta concert I figure it would only be right to go buy a new one. So me and a few friends took the bus to the Fox Run mall and made a day out of it. I had a 35 dollar gift card to Lids which coincidentally worked out pretty nicely. So that was the first store we went into. I ended up buying a white Notre Dame snapback. I'm happy my purchase and have been wearing the hat pretty much every day. After leaving Lids we went to Footlocker so my friend could buy a pair of sneakers. At the store we came across an odd pair of sneakers that were tagged as only 5 dollars. We thought it was a typo at first but one of the employees told us that it was so cheap because they were the last pair and weren't to popular. The only persons foot that the shoe would fit was mine so I spontaneously decided to buy it. They're worth 110 dollars so I might try to resell them only because I don't really see my self wearing them.

Inter-mural Basketball

So tonight we have our first basketball game at the Whitt. Me and some other kids from Christeansen teamed up a few weeks ago and have been practicing on occasion. We aren't really playing that competitively though, we think it would just be fun time to play in an organized league. We're also expecting the other teams to much bigger and better than we are. hopefully we'll come across some teams that we can really keep up with though.  We were assigned to be gray, so we each need to write our names on the back of one of our shirts which is kind of a bummer considering I have to ruin one of my shirts. But we'll see how the season goes, hopefully we can put together a few wins.

David Guetta

Last week i attended the David Guetta concert that the Whittemore Center put on. I had been long awaiting for the concert to come and I was extremely excited when the day came. The concert certainly did not disappoint either. There were so many kids there that I lost contact with my friends half way through didn't see them again until the end. The only downside to the concert was that I accidentally dropped my hat and someone kicked and within a few seconds it was gone. It's not that big of a deal though since I have other hats to wear. I wish the concert had been on a weekend night also. Since it was on Wednesday I didn't get to sleep until around 1 or 2 and I had class the next morning at 10.

super bowl

I am from Massachusetts so I am a big Patriots fan. For the past 5 or 6 years the Pats have come close several times to winning it all have yet to come through. Not to mention one of those years they lost to the Giants, their opponent this time, in the big game a few years ago. So it's all about revenge for us this year, and if we loose we'll never hear the end of it from those Giant fans. Recently Brady has been struggling in the playoffs but we look for him to come through for us this game. I have yet to make plans for the game yet but I know where ever I am I'll be going crazy for my beloved Pats!

cell phone

So back in early December my phone randomly stopped working. Well it worked but I wasn't able to hear anyone, they could only hear me so I had to start using speakerphone if I wanted to talk. Now my upgrade wasn't until mid January so I had two choices, I could continue using the broken phone or order a crappy cheap phone to fill in for the mean time. I decided to take the crappy phone path. After using that phone for about a week it also broke so I went back to my original broken phone. So for the next month who ever I was with would always have to listen to my phone conversations. I have been eligible for the last two weeks to get an upgrade but I'm just to lazy and it wasn't until right before I wrote this blog post that I ordered my new phone. It should be here in a couple days and I cant wait!!!

Angry Boys

Today I watched a couple episodes of the a show on HBO called Angry Boys. This is the show I'm thinking about discussing in our first upcoming class essay. In the show the main actor named Chris Lilley plays the role of all the main characters. The show is designed to make fun of all the stereotypes in today's pop culture and explore the issues faced of young males. The roles that Lilley plays includes an american rapper, a manipulative Japanese mother, a champion surfer, a guard a Juvenile detention facility and her two grandchildren. In the last episode Daniel pretends to be Nathan in hopes of trying to pick up a girl. Daniel and Nathan are the two grandchildren who are twins and Nathan is def. When Daniel talks to the girl she some how instantly knows that it's Daniel even though they look exactly alike considering it's the same actor and sends him on his way. This is the funniest show I'm currently watching and I look forward to discussing it in our upcoming essay.
